Principal® is a global financial services company focused on helping more people and businesses
access financial security. With this in mind, we commissioned the Centre for Economics and
Business Research (Cebr) to develop the Global Financial Inclusion Index (Index)—a robust
measurement framework to provide a globally representative view of financial inclusion on a
market by market basis. The Index ranks 42 markets on three pillars of financial inclusion:
government, financial system, and employer support—using datapoints across public and
survey-based sources. These pillars represent the key stakeholders responsible for helping
to promote financial inclusion across the population. The Index will help by measuring
structural gaps and providing insight into how we can better address those gaps.

We also believe it is important for the financial industry to work with governments,
businesses, nonprofits, and others to help develop more informed, sustainable solutions.
Through these relationships, we’ll be better positioned to prioritize financial
inclusion on global and national scales.

For many organizations, however, the hardest part is knowing where to begin.

We’re launching the Global Financial Inclusion Index to create a benchmark for financial inclusion across global economies, with a goal of inspiring progress.

The Global Financial Inclusion Index ranks 42 markets on three pillars of financial inclusion: government, financial system, and employer support—using datapoints across public and survey-based sources.
